I would like to share with you one of the hobbies I have, that is stamps collecting. I have started collecting postage stamps since primary school. At that time, I could only afford to collect used stamps. What I did was to pester my uncles and aunties to bring back used envelopes from their offices so that I could cut out and extract those stamps. Collection of mint(unused) stamps happened only when I started to work.
After so many years of stamps collecting, the one most expensive set of stamps I ever puchased was when Singapore hosted the first world stamps exhibition in 1995, better known as "Singapore 1995". That particular miniature sheet costed S$200 each, with a limited issue quantity of 200 pieces. It was sold out within the first few hours after the opening of the exhibition. It was a non-perforated 2 stamps miniature sheet with the popular orchids design. Therefore, it is one of my most treasured collection.
The other favorite of mine is the recent issue by Singapore Post to commemorate Singapore hosting of the IMF/World Bank Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors in June 2006. That was the largest international meeting Singapore had ever hosted. As a good citizen of Singapore I was every excited as well. One of the reason was because of the sets of stamps issued to commemorate this high profile event. There were 3 variations in this particular issues. The meeting was held at the Singapore Suntec Convention Center. As there were so many VVIPs involved in this meeting, the security was obviously very tight. However, with some friend's help, I managed to get hold of the set First Day Covers that have a special Cachet on the cover itself. This special Cachet was only available within the convention center SingPost's booth. The picture attached is the First Day Cover attached with a set of circular 'coin stamps'. I would write more about my other hobby in another posting.
